Paris-based Rayon raises €10 million to build the drawing layer for interior design’s AI era

Paris-based Rayon, the browser-based drawing software for interior designers, has raised €10 million in Series A funding.

The funding round was led by Partech with participation from existing investors Northzone, Foundamental, and Seedcamp. The Series A round takes Rayon’s total funding to nearly €16 million. It follows a €4 million Seed round in September 2023 and a €1.7 million pre-Seed in 2022. The company’s angel backers include Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, David Basulto of ArchDaily and Joe Thomas of Loom.

“What drew us to Rayon is how rare this kind of opportunity actually is. Interior design has been underserved by software for decades, and Rayon is the first team we’ve seen build the design layer this space actually needed rather than retrofitting tools made for architecture. Pairing that foundation with AI at this moment is a genuinely unique window, and we don’t expect it to stay open for long,” said Réza Malekzadeh, General Partner at Partech.

Founded in October 2021 by Bastien Dolla and Stanislas Chaillou, Rayon puts plans, styling, specifications and schedules in one shared browser environment. It allows users to import PDFs, images and DWG files, build their own block libraries and draw projects from feasibility through to execution. Since the drawing and its data live in the same browser environment, a specification updates automatically when the drawing changes.

It also allows teams to edit simultaneously and share work through a link rather than an export. The web platform offers more than 4,000 library items and over 100 templates, making design tools for buildings such as housing, retail and offices easily accessible.

“People open Rayon in a browser and expect a toy web application, but they discover a performance and a feature set that are better than most legacy CAD software. Our superpower is to make professional-grade CAD software approachable,” said Dolla, co-founder and CEO of Rayon.

Its customers range from large property and hospitality operators to independent studios. The company says Virgin Atlantic designs its airport lounges with Rayon, while hostel group CityHub reports saving €10k a month on in-house feasibility studies. Coloc Housing says it saves €11k a month by testing layouts before involving architects, while design studio Nolt Mathis switched to Rayon by cancelling a fifteen-year legacy CAD subscription.

Rayon already offers a floor plan vectoriser that converts a scanned or photographed plan into an editable native drawing, including walls, openings and zones. It also has a tool that generates blocks from photographs. The company says version 4, due before the end of the year, will bring a full suite of AI capabilities alongside 3D, built into the same environment rather than added as a separate tool.

“Interior design needs its own approach to AI, not a borrowed one. We’re building ours directly into the drawing experience, while staying connected to the AI tools designers already use,” said Chaillou, co-founder and COO/CPO of Rayon.

Rayon will use the capital raised to launch 3D, build AI into its design experience and scale its go-to-market efforts. Alongside the funding, Rayon released a mobile-first app, a presentation mode for editing and sharing drawings with clients in the room, and an expanded template library. The company says these open up a nearly €50 billion industry that has long been underserved.
