A question for those who hate datacentres

Your account of the datacentre controversy in Cardiff (The datacentre next door: on the frontline of tech’s latest David v Goliath battle, 24 October) missed out the important balancing fact that Cardiff council is seeking a replacement site for the park and ride facility that services the city’s main hospital. We also should ask the anti-datacentre folk if they’d be prepared to stop using their computers – lots of their online time will be using such datacentres.

Lucy Biggs’ letter struck a chord (Life and love, shaped by the Guardian, 23 October). The letters page has allowed me to contribute to global, open, democratic discourse on diverse subjects for almost 25 years. It certainly beats howling into the cosmos, and just may help draw attention to an issue. Is there any other forum that offers such scope and reach?

You missed out the king of all porridges – made with whisky and honey (‘Comfort in a bowl’: porridge hotter than ever as fibremaxxers get their oats, 24 October). It’s on the morning menu at the Steam Inn in Mallaig.

For a good porridge, soak organic oats overnight, cook, stirring with a spurtle, and serve with peanut butter and sliced banana on top.
