Zerodha founders Nithin, Nikhil Kamath pick up 6.72% stake in Viceroy Hotels
Zerodha founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath have acquired a 6.72% stake in Viceroy Hotels during the September quarter. According to the company's latest shareholding disclosures, the brothers made the investment through two entities -- Kamath Associates and Nksquared. The investment comes as Viceroy Hotels continues its recovery following a change in management in 2023.

Viceroy Hotels had earlier entered the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process after running up heavy debt under its previous promoter. Creditors were owed more than Rs 1,150 crore, and the company at one point faced the possibility of liquidation. Trading in its shares was also suspended.

The company’s fortunes began to change in October 2023, when the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal approved a resolution plan submitted by Anirudh Agro Farms Limited. Fresh funds were later brought into the company through its subsidiary, Loko Hospitality.

After the resolution plan was implemented, shares of Viceroy Hotels resumed trading on the NSE and BSE in April 2024.

The company currently operates the Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott properties in Hyderabad. It has also launched a rights issue to raise about Rs 105 crore at Rs 115 per share. The issue will also help increase public shareholding to meet regulatory requirements after promoter ownership rose sharply following the resolution process.

Viceroy Hotels is now looking to expand its business. In December 2025, shareholders approved the Rs 206-crore acquisition of SLN Terminus Hotels and Resorts.

The property operates Marriott-branded executive apartments and will add another asset to Viceroy Hotels’ portfolio as the company looks for further growth.
