The rule we hold ourselves to

Every headline in our newsroom is somebody else's work. We show it the way we would want ours shown: the publisher named, a short excerpt clearly marked as a quotation, and a link to the original as the only way to read the piece.

What appears on each item

• The publisher's name, prominently, above the headline.
• The headline as published, unaltered.
• A short excerpt taken from the publisher's own feed summary, shown as a quotation and trimmed — typically to a couple of sentences.
• The publication time and, where the feed provides one, the byline.
• A link to the original, opening on the publisher's own site.

Stories we hold in full

A minority of sources are reproduced here complete, with their photographs stored on our own servers. This is limited to material we are entitled to republish — works of the United States government, which carry no domestic copyright; material under an open licence; and publishers who have agreed in writing. The basis is recorded against the source and shown on every story page produced from it.

Those stories carry the writer's name, the publisher's name, the original date and a link to the original, and state plainly that HUE Legacy Ventures did not write them.

What never appears

Paywalled or login-gated content, material from a publisher who has not permitted it, and any story stripped of its byline or its link home.

Our own notes

Occasionally we add a line of our own about why a story is on the wire. Those notes are labelled "HUE note" and are always visually separate from the publisher's words. They are our opinion and nobody else's.

Corrections and removals

If you are a publisher and you want your feed removed, your credit changed, or an item taken down, email hello@huelv.com. We will act on it the same day we read it. You do not need to explain why, and you do not need to send it from a lawyer.

Our crawler

It identifies itself as HUELegacyVenturesBot/1.0, fetches only feed URLs that publishers offer for syndication, sends conditional requests so unchanged feeds cost nothing, and runs on a schedule measured in hours. More detail on how we quote.
