BYD (HKEX: 1211) introduced the Atto 8, the European version of its Tang L, at the Paris Motor Show, bringing flash charging to its European lineup and expanding its range of premium battery electric vehicles in the region.

The 7-seat electric SUV debuted on October 12 as the flagship of BYD's European SUV lineup. Sales are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, according to a statement.

The Atto 8 is the first BYD-branded model in Europe to feature the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. Both versions come with a 115-kWh battery pack.

Flash charging allows the SUV to charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes, BYD said.

At temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius, charging from 20% to 97% takes 12 minutes. The cold-weather test starts at a higher charge level than the 10% used under normal conditions.

To support the technology's roll-out, BYD plans to install 3,000 flash charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027, expanding its charging infrastructure alongside new vehicle launches.

The Atto 8 comes in Design rear-wheel-drive and Excellence all-wheel-drive versions. The rear-wheel-drive model delivers a maximum output of 340 kW (456 hp) and a WLTP combined range of 405 miles, or about 652 kilometers.

The all-wheel-drive version adds 1 front motor, raising maximum system output to 570 kW. It accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and offers a WLTP combined range of 374 miles, or about 602 kilometers.

The SUV measures 5,040 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,760 mm in height, matching the dimensions of the Tang L launched in China in 2025. It has 3 rows of seats accommodating 7 occupants.

The Atto 8's cabin features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen with Google navigation, a voice assistant and an app store. The front seats and outer second-row seats offer heating, ventilation and massage functions.

Luggage capacity is 270 liters with all seats in use, expanding to 1,960 liters with the second and third rows folded down. A frunk provides another 136 liters of storage.

The Tang L went on sale in China in April 2025 with battery electric and plug-in hybrid versions. At launch, the battery electric version featured a 100.5-kWh battery and a 1,000-volt high-voltage platform.

The European version pairs a larger battery with next-generation flash charging, continuing the Tang L's focus on rapid charging to attract buyers of large electric SUVs.
