Viet Nam welcomes Russia’s visa-free entry offer to Vietnamese citizens

The move was made following a joint statement issued during the state visit to Russia by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2026. The statement underscored the two sides' commitment to expanding labor cooperation, increasing regular and charter flights, simplifying entry and exit procedures for Vietnamese citizens visiting Russia, and working towards visa-free travel for ordinary passport holders.

On October 12, 2026, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Decree No. 730 on temporary entry and exit procedures for citizens of Viet Nam.

The Decree introduces visa-free travel to Russia for Vietnamese citizens holding ordinary passports, allowing stays of up to 30 days for private and business visits, tourism and participation in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic and sporting events. It also permits visa-free transit.

The Decree will remain in place through October 15, 2027, inclusive. It does not apply to entry for employment, including journalism, education or residence./.
