Xpeng expands GX shipments overseas as Middle East orders exceed 3,000
  • Xpeng's overseas sales exceeded 10,000 vehicles for the first time in September, with global markets accounting for a growing share of total deliveries.
  • GX orders in the Middle East have surpassed 3,000 despite overseas pricing remaining unannounced.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is shipping its flagship GX SUV in volume to the Middle East and Africa, with orders in the Middle East exceeding 3,000 before overseas pricing has been announced.

The Chinese electric vehicle maker disclosed the development in a Weibo post on Saturday, without specifying the shipment size, destinations or local delivery timelines.

Overseas shipments of the GX began in August. Increased shipments to the Middle East and Africa will further expand the flagship model's international presence.

Launched in China on May 20, the GX is a full-size, 6-seat SUV available domestically in battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions.

The model carried an official price range of 279,800 yuan ($41,620) to 359,800 yuan at its China launch. Xpeng did not disclose the powertrain versions or configurations being shipped to the Middle East and Africa.

The GX reached its 20,000th delivery on August 31, just over 3 months after launch. The model recorded 7,224 deliveries in September, accounting for 17.51% of Xpeng's total, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The expansion of GX shipments comes as international markets become an important source of growth for Xpeng, helping cushion a decline in its total deliveries so far this year.

Xpeng's overseas sales reached 10,055 vehicles in September, exceeding 10,000 for the first time and rising 100.94% year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the first 9 months of this year, Xpeng's overseas sales totaled 59,479 vehicles, up 100.11% year-on-year. They accounted for 20.92% of total deliveries, compared with 9.49% a year earlier.

By comparison, Xpeng's total deliveries fell 9.20% year-on-year to 284,367 vehicles in the first 9 months, underscoring the importance of overseas expansion to its overall sales.

Xpeng is also broadening its lineup in other international markets. The company launched the G9L SUV in Europe at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, a day after announcing the Mona L03's launch in Australia and New Zealand.

During an earnings call in August, chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said he expected overseas deliveries of the Mona L03 and other initiatives to help push the company's overseas sales above 40,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter.
