Luxury knitwear manufacturer John Smedley has partnered with historic Yorkshire woollen mill Abraham Moon & Sons (MOON) to launch a limited-edition collection of knitwear and homeware, bringing together more than four centuries of combined British textile manufacturing expertise.

Launched on 8 October 2026, the John Smedley x MOON collection marks the first capsule in a planned long-term partnership between the two heritage brands. Combining John Smedley’s fine knitwear expertise with MOON’s woollen textile manufacturing capabilities, the collaboration celebrates the versatility, durability and enduring appeal of wool.

The collection also represents John Smedley’s first venture into homewares, extending the brand’s established knitwear offering into interior textiles.

Featuring woollen throws, cushions, a chunky knit and a woollen hat, the range combines traditional textile craftsmanship with contemporary styling. A colour palette of ginger, grey, cream and midnight blue is complemented by variegated stripes and plain textures, reflecting the growing interest in natural materials and timeless interior design.

John Smedley CEO Jess Mcguire-Dudley said the partnership was a natural extension of the companies’ shared manufacturing heritage and commitment to quality.

“John Smedley and MOON share generations of specialist knowledge, British manufacturing, and a belief in creating beautiful products that are made to last. This partnership feels incredibly natural, while also giving us the opportunity to do something new,” she said.

“As John Smedley takes its first step into homewares, we’re bringing the craftsmanship, natural fibres and quality that have defined us for more than two centuries into the home.”

Mcguire-Dudley added that the collaboration demonstrated how traditional British textile expertise could remain relevant to contemporary luxury markets.

The collection uses wool sourced from the UK, New Zealand and South Africa, with products manufactured across the companies’ respective British mills. Together, the two businesses represent approximately 430 years of textile manufacturing heritage.

John Smedley, established in 1784, manufactures fine-gauge knitwear at its historic Lea Mills factory in Derbyshire. The company holds a Royal Warrant of Appointment from King Charles III and has continued to invest in British knitwear production.

In 2024, John Smedley invested more than £3 million in new machinery to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities and support the reintroduction of third-party production, encouraging other brands to bring knitwear manufacturing back to the UK.

MOON, meanwhile, has more than 185 years of experience in woollen textile production. Based in Yorkshire, Abraham Moon & Sons is one of the UK’s remaining vertically integrated woollen mills, carrying out the principal stages of fabric production at its historic manufacturing site.

Joe McCann, Brand & Product Director at MOON, said the collaboration reflected wool’s longstanding importance in British homes and wardrobes.

“It started with a common thread. Wool has quietly served as a staple of British homes and wardrobes for generations, offering a sense of calm, cosiness and a soft place to land,” he said.

McCann added that wool’s versatility and longevity had enabled it to remain relevant through changing fashions and lifestyles, with renewed consumer interest in natural fibres and slower living creating opportunities for traditional textile manufacturers.

The partnership aims to combine the technical knowledge and manufacturing capabilities of both businesses to create products designed for longevity rather than seasonal trends.

The John Smedley x MOON limited-edition collection is available through John Smedley’s London boutiques and online, with the companies positioning the range as a celebration of British manufacturing, natural fibres and craftsmanship.
