WASHINGTON— Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent announced today a key senior appointment at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Dr. David Zervos will serve as a Counselor in the Office of the Secretary.
Zervos brings 35 years of experience across global financial markets, central banking, and macroeconomic analysis. He joins Treasury from Jefferies LLC, where he spent nearly half of his career serving as Chief Market Strategist and Head of the Global Macro Division for Leucadia Asset Management. In those roles, he regularly advised leading money managers, banks, hedge funds, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds around the world.
Prior to Jefferies, Zervos managed global macro portfolios at UBS O’Connor and Brevan Howard Asset Management in New York. He began his career in financial markets as a research associate at SBC Warburg and Greenwich NatWest Markets in London.
Zervos began his professional career as an economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and later returned to the Board as a Visiting Advisor during the global financial crisis in 2009. His appointment to Treasury marks the third time in his career that he has chosen to serve in government.
Zervos has also served as a CNBC contributor and has been repeatedly recognized on the Institutional Investor, now Extel, All-America Research Team in Economics. He holds a B.S. in Systems Science and Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester.
