Remarks by Comptroller Gould before the Military Banking Summit 2026

WASHINGTON—Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan V. Gould today discussed the importance of a regulatory and supervisory framework that supports the military community in remarks at the Military Banking Summit.

Excerpts from Comptroller Gould’s remarks are below. His full statement can be found here.

On Supervision

A large bank and a small military bank may operate on very different scales, but both play an important role in supporting the financial strength of our nation. And both deserve a supervisory framework that allows them to serve their customers, manage their risks, and grow responsibly.

On Military Banks

We recognize that your banks are the lifeblood of the Main Street economy. You are responsible for providing small businesses and hardworking families across the country with the financial services they need to access the world’s greatest economy. And we are committed to making it easier for you to do exactly that.

On Community Banks

The men and women who serve our country, and the families who stand behind them, deserve access to financial institutions that understand their circumstances. Whether it is supporting a servicemember through a permanent change of station, helping a military family purchase a home, or providing veterans with the financial services they need as they transition to civilian life, your institutions understand the communities you serve. A Community Bank Comeback must include the institutions that have made that commitment to our military community.
