Polish Ambassador impressed by Viet Nam's ambition and resilience
Polish ambassador underlines significance of 50th National Reunification anniversary
Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk is set to pay an official visit to Viet Nam from October 24-26 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
In a recent interview, the Ambassador said, the visit would build on the outcomes of former Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's trip to Warsaw nearly two years ago, when the two sides agreed to expand cooperation, particularly in the economic sphere. Important documents are expected to be signed during the visit, further strengthening the legal framework for bilateral relations.
The Ambassador highlighted the historical bonds between the two countries, dating back to 1950. During the post-war reconstruction period, Poland helped train Vietnamese specialists in engineering, shipbuilding, geology, architecture and other fields, many of whom returned home to contribute to national development.
Today, both countries have emerged as dynamic economies in their respective regions, creating new opportunities to elevate their partnership. The upcoming meetings between the two nations' senior leaders are expected to cover trade, education, culture, people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in international forums, alongside regional and global developments.
Unlocking high-value opportunities
Regarding the bilateral trade and investment, the Ambassador said, the two-way trade has continued to grow, exceeding US$8 billion in 2025.
While Viet Nam has established a strong manufacturing presence in electronics, information technology, garments and sporting goods, Poland sees considerable potential to increase exports of higher-value products to the rapidly developing Vietnamese market.
Pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, defense and dual-use technologies, and space cooperation are among the promising sectors expected to feature in discussions during Prime Minister Tusk's visit, she noted.
Polish companies are also increasingly participating in major trade fairs in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, reflecting growing interest in Viet Nam's market. Beyond conventional trade, Poland is keen to expand cooperation in services, technology and environmentally friendly solutions.
Through the Green Evi programme, Polish businesses have introduced Vietnamese partners to expertise in water and waste treatment, circular-economy solutions and soil reclamation. Drawing on Poland's experience in economic transformation and compliance with European Union environmental standards, the Ambassador said such cooperation could support Viet Nam's green transition and strengthen its capacity to address climate-change challenges.
Digitalization offers another promising avenue for cooperation. Poland's experience in online tax declarations, digital public services and its mObywatel mobile-citizen application could provide useful lessons for Viet Nam, particularly as the country advances digital government through VNeID.
The two countries could also exchange expertise in cybersecurity, data protection and secure banking transactions, which are essential to building public confidence and facilitating cross-border investment.
People-to-people ties underpin lasting partnership
The Vietnamese community in Poland, one of the country's largest and best-integrated communities of Vietnamese origin, remains an important bridge between the two nations. With a third generation now growing up in Poland, the community contributes to business, cultural exchange and mutual understanding while preserving its Vietnamese heritage.
Ambassador Skoczek emphasised the need to deepen educational and cultural links, particularly among younger generations. Nearly 130 Polish books have been translated into Vietnamese, and she expressed hope for more translations of Vietnamese literature into Polish.
Viet Nam's selection as one of four priority countries by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange is expected to create further opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation, scholarships and exchanges benefiting students and researchers from both countries.
Viet Nam's rising international standing
Ahead of Viet Nam's hosting of APEC in 2027, Ambassador Skoczek praised the country's consistent efforts to strengthen its international position and its capacity to host major diplomatic events.
She described Viet Nam as an increasingly influential middle power pursuing an independent foreign policy and maintaining constructive relations with partners worldwide. In a turbulent international environment, she noted, Viet Nam's commitment to strategic autonomy and balanced diplomacy was particularly significant.
Poland is also strengthening its engagement with Southeast Asia through its accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, appreciating Viet Nam's support for the process, shared the diplomat.
The Ambassador expressed confidence that Prime Minister Tusk's visit would help turn the historical friendship between the two countries into more concrete economic partnerships, stronger technological cooperation and closer people-to-people connections, laying a firmer foundation for mutually beneficial relations in the years ahead./.
