Henri-Lloyd launches 14-piece ‘Vintage Originals’ edit from archive

Heritage British sailing brand Henri-Lloyd has launched an exclusive, curated edit of just 14 Henri-Lloyd garments from the brand's racing past, hand-picked from the archive, restored and cleaned, and sold as one-of-a-kind pieces on its website.

Spanning 1987 to 2013, the 14 pieces in the launch edit trace Henri-Lloyd's place at the heart of competitive sailing. Each one comes with its own unique story to tell, reflecting the pioneers, places and moments behind it. Each product also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The 1987 Henri-Lloyd ‘Stars & Stripes Jacket’ reflects the brand's involvement in the America's Cup and its longstanding association with legendary American skipper Dennis Conner. The jacket comes in the team’s signature colours, with embroidered branding.

There’s also the 1987 ‘Consort RWR Jacket’, created by Italian designer Olmes Carretti and inspired by the Whitbread Round the World Race. The Consort became one of Henri-Lloyd’s most recognisable jackets, worn by the Paninaro in Italy and a firm favourite on the football terraces in the UK. The vintage edit includes a 1998 ‘Ferrari Club’ edition and versions from 2012 and 2013.

There’s also the 1993 navy ‘Jib Jacket’, as worn for the Whitbread Round the World Race. It carries the embroidered emblem of the 1993–94 race, in what was a defining era of round-the-world racing.

Another addition is the 2001–2002 Volvo Ocean Race ‘Jib Jacket’, which celebrated a significant chapter in offshore sailing, marking the first edition of the round-the-world race under the Volvo name, following nearly three decades as the Whitbread Round the World Race.

The first jacket to sell on Henri-Lloyd's website was the 1997 Silk Cut Whitbread ‘GORE-TEX Smock’ in purple and white, priced at £1,200, with other jackets priced between £500 and £900.

Chris Hammond, CEO of Henri-Lloyd, said: “Henri-Lloyd has been part of sailing's biggest moments for more than 60 years, and these pieces are the proof. Every single one has been somewhere: a start line, an ocean crossing, a dockside in Cowes. Vintage is our way of celebrating that history and the people who wrote it, and of handing a genuine piece of it to a new generation.”

An accompanying campaign line captures the spirit of the edit: ‘Designed with purpose. Made to be worn. Shaped by the lives they've lived’. The garments were built for the water, and they carry the history of the crews, races and designers who made Henri-Lloyd what it is today.
