- The Tai 6 was mentioned for the first time by an executive at Fang Cheng Bao, but no details were disclosed.
- The Tai 9 will launch in November, while the Shark pickup is expected to enter the Chinese market in December.
BYD's (HKEX: 1211) Fang Cheng Bao confirmed it is planning the Tai 6 and expects the Formula SL to debut in 2027, as it continues to expand its product lineup.
Xiong Tianbo, general manager of the Fang Cheng Bao division, said on Weibo on Saturday that "the Tai 6 circulating online does indeed exist," but did not disclose the new model's launch timing, positioning or technical details.
She also said the Tai 9 will launch later this month and the Shark pickup is expected to launch in December, setting a clear timeline for the brand's upcoming product releases.
The schedule updates plans she disclosed on October 22, when she said the Shark pickup was expected to launch between late November and early December, and the Tai 9 would officially launch after November 15.
Fang Cheng Bao is expanding beyond hardcore off-road SUVs into more market segments, adding battery-electric sedans and shooting brakes alongside urban family SUVs, and preparing to enter China's pickup market.
The Formula SL is part of the Formula S family unveiled at this year's Beijing Auto Show. The family's Formula S sedan and Formula S GT shooting brake went on sale on September 16.
The upcoming Tai 9 is a 6-seat plug-in hybrid SUV with a 2+2+2 seating layout, which will further expand Fang Cheng Bao's lineup for family users.
The Shark pickup is a model BYD launched overseas before bringing it to China. It was first launched in Mexico in May 2024 and completed a domestic regulatory filing in China in July this year.
The version filed for domestic sale combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with front and rear electric motors in a plug-in hybrid system. Introducing the model will add a new product category to Fang Cheng Bao's lineup.
The new product plans come as Fang Cheng Bao faces pressure to accelerate deliveries of existing models. Xiong posted today after the first offline event for Formula S series users, apologizing for slow deliveries and saying the team is working flat out to boost output.
She said the DiSus C version of the Formula S series rolled off the production line on November 7 and, after allowing for logistics time, deliveries are expected to begin in mid-November or by late November at the latest.
DiSus is an intelligent body control system unveiled by BYD in April 2023. DiSus-C adjusts damping by controlling the solenoid valves of the shock absorbers, significantly improving ride comfort compared with conventional passive suspension.
